Why It Works

Destroyer and Love Gun are perfect for the gym or a party. The eighties albums without make-up, Lick It Up and Animalize, are glossy hard rock for the car. Beth is the one ballad everybody knows.

Why Mixtuby

Mixtuby plays every KISS album in order, one song into the next. On YouTube you get one video and then autoplay goes somewhere else. No account, no subscription.

Biography

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons formed KISS in New York in 1973 with drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley. Each wore make-up as a character: the Starchild, the Demon, the Catman and the Spaceman.

They took the make-up off in 1983, put it back on for a reunion in 1996, and played their final shows in New York in December 2023. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

History

The first three albums, KISS, Hotter Than Hell and Dressed to Kill, came out between 1974 and 1975 and sold modestly. Destroyer, produced by Bob Ezrin in 1976, had Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud and Beth. Rock and Roll Over and Love Gun followed.

Dynasty in 1979 had I Was Made for Lovin' You, their disco-flavoured hit.

After the concept album Music from "The Elder" and Creatures of the Night, they appeared without make-up on Lick It Up in 1983. Animalize, Asylum, Crazy Nights and Hot in the Shade kept them on MTV, and Revenge in 1992 was harder. Carnival of Souls, Psycho Circus, Sonic Boom and Monster were their later albums.

Legacy & Influence

KISS turned the rock concert into a show and the band into a brand, and many musicians, from Mötley Crüe to Foo Fighters, say a KISS concert was why they picked up an instrument.
