The Offspring formed in 1984 in Garden Grove, California, founded by vocalist/guitarist Bryan "Dexter" Holland and guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman. Starting in the Southern California punk scene alongside bands like Bad Religion and Social Distortion, they developed a sound that blended punk speed with pop-rock hooks and sardonic humor. Their musical style evolved from straightforward punk rock into a distinctive fusion of punk, pop-punk, and alternative rock. Dexter Holland's nasally vocal delivery and clever lyrics became the band's calling card, while Noodles' chunky guitar riffs provided the sonic backbone. Smash (1994) sold over 11 million copies, becoming the best-selling album ever released on an independent label. The Offspring released their self-titled debut in 1989 on Nemesis Records, followed by Ignition (1992) on Epitaph Records. But it was Smash (1994) that changed everything — powered by "Come Out and Play" and "Self Esteem," it became the best-selling independent album of all time, moving over 11 million copies worldwide. Signing to Columbia Records, they released Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) featuring the hit "Gone Away," then Americana (1998) which exploded globally with "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" and "The Kids Aren't Alright." Conspiracy of One (2000) continued their hot streak with "Original Prankster" and "Want You Bad." The 2000s brought Splinter (2003) and Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008), the latter featuring "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" — one of their biggest international hits. Days Go By (2012) proved their staying power, while Let the Bad Times Roll (2021) marked a strong comeback after a 9-year gap. In 2024, The Offspring released Supercharged, their 11th studio album, continuing to deliver the high-energy punk rock their fans have loved for four decades. The band remains active, touring worldwide and proving that great punk rock has no expiration date.

The Offspring's impact on punk rock is immeasurable. Alongside Green Day and Rancid, they spearheaded the 1990s punk revival that brought the genre from underground clubs to mainstream arenas.
