Biography

Curtis James Jackson III was born on July 6, 1975, in South Jamaica, Queens. In 2000 he was shot nine times and survived, and his mixtapes caught the attention of Eminem, who signed him to Shady and Aftermath with Dr. Dre.

He later built a business career, from Vitaminwater to the TV series Power, which he produced.

History

Get Rich or Die Tryin' came out in February 2003 and sold more than 870,000 copies in its first week. In da Club, produced by Dr. Dre, spent nine weeks at number one in the US, and 21 Questions and P.

I.M.P.

followed.

The Massacre in 2005 had Candy Shop and Just a Lil Bit. Curtis came out in 2007, the same week as Kanye West's Graduation, in a famous sales battle that Kanye won. Before I Self Destruct (2009) and Animal Ambition (2014) were his later albums.

Legacy & Influence

50 Cent and G-Unit dominated rap in the mid-2000s, and his mixtape-first career showed labels that a rapper could build an audience on the street before signing.
