Why It Works

Faith, Pornography and Disintegration are dark, slow albums for a rainy night. The Head on the Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me are full of bright pop songs for the afternoon. Wish has Friday I'm in Love.

Why Mixtuby

Mixtuby plays every Cure album in order, so Disintegration still opens with Plainsong. On YouTube you get one video and then autoplay goes somewhere else. No account, no subscription.

Biography

Robert Smith, Lol Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey formed the band in Crawley, England, in 1976, and took the name The Cure in 1978. Smith has been the only constant member, singer and main songwriter.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

History

Three Imaginary Boys came out in 1979, and Boys Don't Cry was released as a single the same year. Seventeen Seconds (1980), Faith (1981) and Pornography (1982) made up a famously bleak trilogy. Smith then wrote the light pop singles Let's Go to Bed and The Lovecats, and The Top followed in 1984.

The Head on the Door in 1985 had Close to Me and In Between Days, and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me in 1987 had Just Like Heaven. Disintegration, released in 1989, is usually called their masterpiece, with Lovesong, Pictures of You and Lullaby. Wish in 1992 had Friday I'm in Love.

After Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, The Cure and 4:13 Dream, they released Songs of a Lost World in November 2024, sixteen years after the last album.

Legacy & Influence

The Cure shaped goth, indie and emo, and bands from the Smashing Pumpkins to Deftones name them as an influence. Robert Smith's smeared lipstick and wild hair are among the most famous looks in rock.
