Bad Bunny Player
Three consecutive years as Spotify's most-streamed artist. The first non-English artist to achieve that. Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — the first Spanish-language album to do so. Bad Bunny didn't just cross over. He made the world cross over to him, in Spanish, on his terms. That's a different kind of achievement.
Why It Works

Biography
Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio was born March 10, 1994, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He grew up in a working-class family — his mother was a school teacher, his father a truck driver. He studied audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo while working as a bagger at a supermarket, uploading songs to SoundCloud in his spare time.
In 2016, DJ Luian heard his track Diles and signed him to Hear This Music. A year later, he was the biggest name in Latin music.
Bad Bunny's music is genre-defying in a way that's become his signature. He started in Latin trap, moved through reggaeton, incorporated cumbia, salsa, bolero, rock, and experimental pop. He sings in Spanish and refuses to code-switch for mainstream appeal — an explicit political choice.
His lyrics address gender violence, Puerto Rico's colonial relationship with the United States, LGBTQ+ themes, and everyday life. He wears skirts and nail polish on stage, challenges machismo culture from within it, and moves millions of fans to follow him.
Forbes named Bad Bunny the highest-paid musician of 2023. His World's Hottest Tour (2022) grossed over $435 million — the highest-grossing Latin music tour ever. He has acted in Bullet Train (2022) and Karate Kid: Legends (2025), and appeared on the cover of GQ, Time, and Rolling Stone.
He is the rare artist who is simultaneously the biggest in Latin music and one of the biggest in the world, on his own cultural terms.
History
Bad Bunny's debut album X 100PRE (2018) arrived as a Christmas Eve surprise, featuring Amorfoda, Solo de Mi, and MIA with Drake. It debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 — remarkable for an all-Spanish debut.
YHLQMDLG (2020) — Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana ("I Do Whatever I Want") — pushed further, with Safaera and Yo Perreo Sola becoming viral sensations. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo (2020) made history as the first all-Spanish album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Dakiti, featuring Jhay Cortez, became the longest-charting Latin song in Hot 100 history, spending 47 weeks on the chart.
Un Verano Sin Ti (2022) repeated the feat — again the first all-Spanish album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (it did it twice, recharting in summer 2023). Me Porto Bonito and Titi Me Pregunto became the songs of summer 2022 globally.
Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Manana (2023) debuted with Monaco at No. 1 on the Hot 100 — his third No. 1 hit.
DeBi TiRAR MaS FOToS (2025) was a deliberate love letter to Puerto Rico, incorporating traditional plena, salsa, and folk music. Released January 5, 2025, it debuted at No. 1 globally and was accompanied by a short film and an extended statement about Puerto Rican identity and resilience.
Legacy & Influence
Bad Bunny's legacy is still being written, but what's already certain is this: he changed the rules. English-language dominance in global pop music has been the assumed norm for decades. Bad Bunny broke it, not by translating himself for American audiences but by making American audiences come to him.
Spotify's most-streamed artist three years straight. The highest-grossing Latin tour in history. A Billboard 200 chart-topper in Spanish.
Beyond the statistics, Bad Bunny represents a generation of young Latinos who see their culture, language, and identity reflected in the biggest stages in the world. He advocates for Puerto Rican independence, speaks out against gender-based violence, and pushes against the machismo norms of reggaeton from within the genre. DeBi TiRAR MaS FOToS was a deliberate act of cultural preservation — traditional Puerto Rican music reaching a global audience through the world's most streamed artist.
