Post Malone

Austin Richard Post was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1995 and grew up in Grapevine, Texas. He learned guitar playing Guitar Hero, started making music in high school, and moved to Los Angeles at 18. He recorded White Iverson in his friend's closet studio.

It went viral on SoundCloud in February 2015 — a million plays in a month. Republic Records signed him before the year was out.

Stoney (2016) debuted at number four and just kept selling — it spent 77 weeks in the Billboard 200 top ten and was certified Diamond. Congratulations and I Fall Apart became generation-defining hits. Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018) opened with the biggest first week of the year: 461,000 units.

Rockstar spent eight weeks at number one. Psycho and Better Now followed.

Hollywood's Bleeding (2019) was the commercial peak — Circles spent three weeks at number one and 39 weeks in the top ten. Sunflower (from Spider-Verse) became his most streamed song. Then he pivoted: Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) was raw and personal, Austin (2023) leaned into rock and pop, and F-1 Trillion (2024) was a full country album featuring Morgan Wallen, Tim McGraw, and Blake Shelton.

Nine Diamond singles. Over 80 billion streams. Still only 30 years old.

Stoney (December 2016) is where mainstream Post Malone begins. White Iverson — that lazy, melodic hook over a minimal beat — was already a hit before the album dropped. But it was I Fall Apart that became the sleeper anthem — a heartbreak song so raw it went from deep cut to Diamond single through pure word of mouth.

Congratulations with Quavo sealed the debut as a classic.

Beerbongs & Bentleys (April 2018) was dominance. Rockstar featuring 21 Savage was everywhere — eight weeks at number one, the defining song of 2018. Psycho opened with a cinematic sample and went straight to number two.

Better Now proved Post could write pop hooks that rival anyone. The album sold 461,000 first week and every track charted on the Hot 100.

Hollywood's Bleeding (September 2019) is the masterpiece. Circles — that melancholic guitar loop, the resigned vocal — is one of the most perfect pop songs of the decade. Sunflower with Swae Lee (from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) has over 2 billion Spotify streams.

Take What You Want with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott proved he could do rock. Goodbyes with Young Thug kept the rap credibility. Every genre, every collaboration worked.

After the pop peak, Post went inward. Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) was shorter, darker, more honest — Lemon Tree, Wrapped Around Your Finger. Austin (2023) was named after his real name and leaned into guitar pop — Chemical, Mourning.

Then F-1 Trillion (2024) surprised everyone: a full country album. I Had Some Help with Morgan Wallen went to number one and spent 29 weeks in the top ten. The genre-hopping wasn't a phase — it was the whole point.

Post Malone proved that genre gatekeeping is dead. He raps, he sings, he plays guitar, he does country — and the audience follows because the songs are good. Nine Diamond-certified singles put him in a club with very few members.
