Pocket Tools is a set of small helpers for the moments a sum gets in the way — abroad, in a shop, in the kitchen, before a drive. The currency converter does not stop at the official rate; it shows what each kind of place really gives you, from a fintech card to the airport desk, best first. Next to it are a unit converter, a calculator with its own big keys, the discount, tip and price-per-kg sums, adult shoe sizes, US cups and spoons in grams, the oven in °C, °F and gas marks, the fuel cost of a trip split between people, and the days between two dates. Every sum is worked out on your phone; only the day's public exchange rates come from our server.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Open a section

Each tool is a closed row — Money, Convert, Calc, Bill split, Sizes, Kitchen, Trip cost, Days. Tap one to open it; the others stay out of the way.

  2. 2

    Type one number

The answer appears as you type, in a table with the label on the left and the number on the right. The row that answers your question is the coloured one. If something is missing, the table says what to add.

  3. 3

Money — read the table, not only the rate

The big number is what the best place gives you, and the ✓ line names that place. Under it, the official rate — BNR for the leu, the European Central Bank for the rest — then each kind of place. I buy turns it round, to what each place charges you for the sum you want.

  4. 4

    Calc — use the keys

The calculator has its own keys, so the phone keyboard never covers the answer. 120 − 30 % = 84, the way a shop does it. Under it, a discount and which pack is cheaper per kg; the restaurant bill, split between you, has a row of its own.

  5. 5

    Pick metric or imperial

In ⚙ you choose the units and the language. Convert and Trip cost follow it — kilometres and litres, or miles and gallons.

Why the Rate You See Is Not the Rate You Get

The rate on the news is the mid-market rate. Nobody sells at it; every place adds a margin, and the margin is what makes one place cheaper than another. A card issued by a fintech usually costs well under 1 %, a bank card abroad around 2–3 % with its fee, cash at a bank counter more. Dynamic currency conversion — the card machine or ATM offering to charge you in your own money — averages about 5 % in Europe and can reach 12 %, and airport and hotel desks are dearer still. The figures in Pocket Tools are typical cases, checked on public sources; the real one changes with the country, the amount and your card.

Real Moments to Use It

At the exchange office abroad

Type what you sell and see how far the office's offer is from the fintech card and the bank counter, before you hand the cash over.

Money · I sell

A card machine asks “your currency or theirs?”

The table shows the cost of paying in your own money at the terminal next to paying in the local one. The answer is almost always the local one.

Money · Card machine row

A sale sign in a shop

30 % off a price of 120 — type the price and the percent and see what you pay and what you save.

Calc · Discount

A recipe in cups

Pick the ingredient and get the grams and millilitres; the oven line gives °C, °F and the gas mark.

Kitchen

Splitting the fuel on a road trip

The distance, what the car uses and the price per litre give you the fuel, the total and each person's share.

Trip cost

Money, units and sums, one tap away

Pocket Tools — FAQ

Where do the exchange rates come from?

From the National Bank of Romania for any pair with the leu, and from the European Central Bank for the rest, with the date they were published. Our server fetches them once and your phone keeps a copy, so Money also works offline with the last rates.

Why does each place give a different amount?

Each kind of place adds its own margin to the reference rate. The table uses the typical margin for each, checked on public sources, so it is an estimate — your bank, the country and the amount can move it.

Is anything I type sent anywhere?

No. Every sum is worked out on your phone. The only thing the tool fetches is the day's public rate table, the same for everyone.

Does it work without the internet?

Convert, Calc, Sizes, Kitchen, Trip cost and Days need no connection. Money needs one connection to get the rates, then uses the copy saved on your phone.

Can I switch to miles and gallons?

Yes. In ⚙ pick Imperial, and Convert and Trip cost follow it.

Is it free?
