Connect the Stars

Open Constellation — Free

Constellation is a calm game on a dark night sky. The stars of a real constellation appear one by one, the next one to join breathes softly, and you tap it; a line of light travels out to meet it. When the shape is whole it blooms, its name rises and a one-line fact settles underneath, and then the next sky begins. There is no timer and nothing to lose; a wrong tap is simply ignored. Each constellation you complete joins your collection of 88, where you can read the myth behind it. Free, no account.

How It Works

  1. 1

What Happens in the Sky

The next star breathes

Star glows

Follow it, tap it, and a line of light joins the two. Tap the wrong star and nothing happens at all.

The shape blooms

Every constellation

The lines flare, the name rises, a short fact appears, then it fades into the next sky.

Fake stars hide the shape

Find it

You are given only the name. Between 8 and 40 decoy stars hide it; the more of the sky you know, the more decoys there are.

Look, then rebuild

Rebuild it

The shape shows for a moment, then it is gone and you draw it again from memory.

Your collection grows

Out of 88

Every new constellation adds a star to your collection and gives 100 points the first time. Your rank climbs from Stargazer to Cosmographer.

Why Looking at the Stars Calms You Down

Psychologists call the feeling of standing under a huge night sky awe: the sense of being in front of something much bigger than yourself. Research led by Dacher Keltner at the University of California, Berkeley, has linked moments of awe with feeling calmer, kinder and less caught up in your own worries. In one study from his colleagues at UCSF, older adults who took short weekly "awe walks" reported more positive feelings than those who walked as usual.

A phone screen is not a real night sky, and this game is not a study. But it borrows the parts that help: a dark, slow screen, shapes people have looked at for thousands of years, and the old stories that go with them. Star glows mode has no timer and no wrong answers on purpose.

If you can, look up at the real thing afterwards. The constellations you collect here are the same ones over your house.

Real Moments to Use It

The last minutes before sleep

Star glows mode, the screen dark, piano low. Nothing to win, nothing to chase.

Learning the night sky

Find it makes you recognise Orion, Cassiopeia and the Plough from their shape alone.

Find it · Ambient

A calm game with a child

Take turns tapping stars and read the myth together when the shape lights up.

Star glows · Chill

Before a night under real stars

Learn a few shapes at home, then look for them outside.

A quiet break at work

Two or three skies between tasks, jazz in your ears.

Connect the Stars — FAQ

Are these real constellations?

Yes. All 88 constellations astronomers recognise, with their real shapes, each with a short fact and the myth behind it. The Great Bear appears as its best-known part, the Big Dipper.

Can I lose?

No. In Star glows a wrong tap is ignored, and there is no timer in any mode. Find it and Rebuild it give points for right links, but a wrong tap only shakes.

What are the three ways to play?

Star glows shows you the next star. Find it gives you only the name and hides the shape among fake stars. Rebuild it shows the shape for a moment and asks you to draw it from memory.

Where can I read the myths?

In your collection. Every constellation you have completed is listed there; tap one to read its story.

Is it good for falling asleep?

It was made for the last minutes of the day, with a dark sky, no timer, soft tones you can switch off. Pair it with a sleep timer so the music stops on its own.

Is it free? Does it collect anything?

Free, no account. Your collection, rank and settings are remembered in this browser; settings sync with your Mixtuby settings if you are signed in.
