Typing Game with Music
Typo is a typing game that plays over your music. Words drift down the screen and you type them letter by letter; each letter you get right turns to green sparks, and the whole word bursts when you finish it. Miss one and it simply goes. There are no lives and no game over, just a counter of the words you typed and a pace that picks up the longer you keep going. Type calm affirmations, a list of your own, or the lyrics of the song that is playing, line by line, in time with the music. Free, no account.

Tap Start and type
On a computer just type. On a phone, tap the play area to bring up the keyboard and tap again to hide it.
How a Round Goes
Words fall
From the start
One word or line at a time, falling slowly enough to read. On phones they fall slower than on a computer.
Letters turn to sparks
On every right letter
Type the next letter and it breaks into green sparks. Capitals don't matter.
A finished word bursts
On every word
The counter goes up by one. Switch on sound for a soft chord with each word.
The pace picks up
After 20 and 40 seconds
Easy, then medium, then hard. Words fall faster and come sooner, and keep that pace for as long as you play.
A missed word just goes
Any time
No lives to lose and no game over. The next word comes and you carry on.
Why Short, Regular Rounds Work
Learning research has a steady finding called the spacing effect: practice spread over several short sessions sticks better than the same practice in one long block. A large review by Cepeda and colleagues in 2006 pulled together hundreds of studies and found it again and again, for words and facts and for skills. Typing is a skill like that. A few rounds of Typo on most days does more than one long session on Sunday.
The game is built for that. A round has no end and no score to protect, so you can stop after two minutes and lose nothing, and it gets harder only while you keep going.
The affirmations are short, plain sentences we wrote ourselves, like "I am calm" and "I let go". Typing them is a pleasant way to practise; it is not a therapy.

Typing Game with Music — FAQ
Can I lose?
No. A word you miss just goes and the next one comes. There are no lives and no game over; the counter only goes up.
Can I type the lyrics of any song?
Of many songs, not all. Mixtuby looks up the lyrics of the song that is playing on LRCLIB, a free community lyrics database, and sends them down line by line in time with it. If there are none, Typo uses affirmations until the next song.
Can I type my own words?
Yes. In My Words, write one phrase per line, up to 60 characters each, and Typo uses those.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the play area to open the keyboard and tap again to close it. Words fall more slowly on phones, and the mini player moves above the keyboard so you can still control the music.
Does it measure words per minute?
No. It counts the words you finished. It is a game to play over music, not a typing test.
Is it free? Does it collect anything?
Free, no account. Your settings and your own words are remembered in this browser, and if you are signed in they sync with your other Mixtuby settings. In Lyrics, the app asks our server for the lyrics of the song that is playing; what you type is not sent anywhere.
