Drive is Mixtuby's free car mode. Put your phone in a car mount and your music keeps playing over a live street map with your speed, the speed limit when OpenStreetMap knows it, and a route line to where you are going, with voice directions in your phone's language. It runs in the browser, needs no account, and your location never goes to Mixtuby. Switch to Run and the same map shows your distance, time and pace.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Mount the phone first

Put the phone in a car mount where you can see it without looking away from the road. Everything below happens before you start the engine.

  2. 2

    Start your music

Play a playlist — your own, or one of the road-trip playlists — then tap Open Drive.

  3. 3

Add where you are going (optional)

Type an address in Where to? and tap a result. The route appears on the map, with the next turn on top and your arrival time.

  4. 4

    Tap Start Drive

Allow location when the phone asks. The screen stays on while Drive runs, and your speed shows in large type.

  5. 5

    Or tap Start Run

On foot, Run shows distance, time and average pace over the same map, and draws the path you ran as you go.

Before You Drive

Drive is made to be set up once and then left alone. Choose the music and the destination while the car is parked, put the phone in a mount, and let it run. If you want to change something, pull over first. In many countries holding a phone while driving is against the law, and even where it is not, every glance away from the road counts.

The speed limit comes from OpenStreetMap, which volunteers keep up to date. On many roads it is right, on some it is missing, and on a few it can be out of date — the road signs always win. Drive is not a certified navigation system; treat the route as a helpful line on the map, not as an instruction to follow against what you see.

Your location is used on your phone to draw the map, the speed limit and the route. It goes only to the free map services that draw them, never to Mixtuby, and it is not saved.

Car Mode Music Player — FAQ

Can I use Mixtuby while driving?

Yes — Drive is built for a phone in a car mount, with the music playing over a live map and your speed. Set it up before you set off and keep your eyes on the road. It is not a certified navigation system, and road signs always come first.

Does Drive show up on CarPlay or Android Auto?

No. Drive runs on the phone's own screen, in the browser or in Mixtuby installed on the home screen. The sound reaches the car over Bluetooth or a cable like any other phone audio.

Does Mixtuby see where I am?

No. Your location stays on your phone. It is sent only to the free map services that draw the map, the speed limit and the route (OpenStreetMap-based, plus AWS elevation tiles when 3D view is on) — never to Mixtuby, and it is not saved.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Drive is free and needs no account. A free account is useful only in Run, if you want to keep your runs.

Does it work without mobile data?

No. The map, the route and the music all stream, so Drive needs a data connection the whole way.

Can I track a run while listening to music?

Yes. Tap Start Run and Mixtuby shows distance, time and average pace over the map while your playlist keeps going.
